Calling all Volunteers!
We need volunteers to train as advisers in our Amersham and Chesham offices.
We are holding an Open Day on Wednesday 18th October 10am – 12noon in Chesham Town Hall. Please come along to find out more about our charity and what it means to be an adviser. To book a place, please call 01494 774748 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
By joining us you will become part of a well-established, growing advice network which really values its volunteers. Our aims are to provide the advice people need and to improve the policies and practices that affect people’s lives. We can offer comprehensive training and support, a good social network, rewarding work and opportunities for personal development. In return we ask for a regular commitment.
Scam Awareness Month
This month we’re spreading the word about scams, to help stop people across Chiltern and South Bucks from being conned.
National Citizens Advice has tracked a 17% increase in people being scammed after purchasing ‘phantom goods’.
The scam works by conning shoppers into buying high value items, namely online, which turn out not to exist. The average loss was £1,100.
People were most likely to be scammed when buying cars, flights and furniture. Other ‘phantom goods’ include jewellery and cameras.
The Citizens Advice consumer service received 555 reports of ‘phantom goods’ scams during January and March 2017, compared with 475 over the same period the year before.
Get advice on an offer you’ve had, or find out how you can get your money back if you’ve been scammed, from the Citizens Advice consumer service: 03454 04 05 06
